St James’s Church Piccadilly - The Wren Project

We were delighted to work with St James’s Church Piccadilly on The Wren Project, part of their National Lottery Heritage Fund Delivery Phase application. The project aims to make this Grade I listed building an engaging and inclusive space for all visitors.

Our work focused on developing an Interpretation Plan guided by three principles: Beauty and JusticeHonest Storytelling, and Deep Context. Through workshops with the church team, architects, and activity planners, we explored audiences, themes, and approaches to interpretation.

Interpretation will be flexible and inclusive, with temporary, mobile, digital, and event-based experiences rather than fixed displays. Co-creation is central, enabling volunteers, young people, and community groups to contribute artworks, textiles, and creative outputs. Stories will also be embedded in the new garden and churchyard, exploring urban biodiversity, sustainability, and local communities.

By connecting people to the building, its layered history, and its contemporary community, the Wren Project seeks to provoke curiosity, conversation, and meaningful engagement for everyone who visits.
